Welcome to the demo version of Alchemy East's "gifts of the magi".  Thank you for 'test driving' our product.  We sincerely hope that you appreciate the philosophy that brought this product to market.  Simply put, this product gives the customer a great value at a reasonable price.  Our hope is that after 'test driving' this demo version you will decide to buy the real thing.

  5. Please do not distribute any part of this 'test drive' package separately. The entire package includes this demo manual, AlchemyReader.demo DA, EDitOR.demo DA,  MerriMac BlackJack DA, and the HintsDemo DA.

The purpose of this demo version manual is to give an overall overview of the many products contained on the 'gifts of the magi' disk, how they evolved, and how they may be of use to you.  The secondary purpose of this demo manual is to let you know who we are at Alchemy East and to give you some idea of our plans for the future.

  9. The product 'gifts of the magi' is not copy protected!  You will also find that registering as a user is a simple process.  Simply fill out the registration and pop it into the mail.  We have paid the mailing cost for you!

  11. We encourage our users to write in with their ideas for improvements to our existing products.  From this already our products have been updated to meet the demands of our users.  Our products EDitOR, Alchemy Reader, and MyTimeManager have already gone through updates because of you the user!
  12. We will implement the most popular improvements and make upgrades available to our registered users for a reasonable price.

  32. THE MAIN ATTRACTIONS:

The EDitOR desk accessory is a full blown word processor.  EDitOR supports both the ImageWriter and the LaserWriter printers with Chicago, Monaco, Geneva, Courier, Helvetica, and Time fonts.  There is also a Quick Print option available for the ImageWriter.  This DA automatically knows if it is connected to the LaserWriter or the ImageWriter.  Cut, copy, paste and clear are supported from the Edit Menu and from the command keys.  Also a new feature!   Command-D and Command-T automatically will date and time stamp the document.   This makes it valuable for recording of time and date for business purposes.  The Tab feature is preset and inserts hard spaces for tabs.  This is because that many users use EDitOR for communicating with mainframe computers.  In this package is a limited version of EDitOR with the save and print routines disabled.

  36. MyTimeManager is a great organizer for business and personal use!  This productivity tool keeps track of your appointments and notes by the hour, day, week and month.  Also featured is desktop phone dialing.

  38. Helpful Hints On-Line!

WriteHints, DrawHints, and PaintHints are desk accessories that give you instant help with MacWrite™, MacDraw™, and MacPaint™ at any time.  Each DA has six screens full of power tips.  In this package is a limited version of the Hints type of DA with a help screen from each of the Hints DA's along with some more advertising.  Hey!  We've got to make a living!

  44. TimeCard DA — keep record of times spent on unlimited projects, as you work, by creating a date/time stamp file.  You can print out the results at any time with this DA or edit it and add comments using EDitOR!

  46. IW.Control DA — Control your ImageWriter with this desk accessory.  Features both forward and reverse line feed and form feed.

  48. YuppieClock DA — This talking clock desk accessory will tell you the time!

These products were created out of a need that was expressed by users at many Macintosh User Groups.  The products were created with the user in mind and tested by users.  So in reality, this was a user created product in a sense!  Feedback and criticisms were evaluated and the product was enhanced with the user suggestions.  This is our attitude at Alchemy East.
